Welcome to Longwood Amateur Operatic Society’s website.
We have been performing in Huddersfield since 1924. Our venues have changed over the years – moving with the times – from the Mechanics Hall in Longwood (where we started and hence named our society Longwood AOS) to the former Venn Street Arts Centre, which was pulled down to make way for the Kingsgate Shopping Centre, to the Lawrence Batley Theatre on Queen Street. We were the first amateur operatic society to stage a show at the LBT, as it has become affectionately known, with our performance of The Pirates of Penzance in 1994.
Sadly, this year, 2017, we were unable to perform a musical at the LBT due to financial difficulties. However – we are striving to overcome this predicament by actively fund raising to try to get us back performing our wonderful musicals for the audiences of Huddersfield and surrounding areas. This may mean another change of venue…………….who knows.
We are pleased to announce that we performed a MUSCIAL SHOWCASE back at the Longwood Mechanics Hall in Longwood, Huddersfield. The show opened on Wednesday 4th October and ran until Saturday 7th October, including a matinee. We showcased some of our favourite musicals and also our juniors showcased two musicals that they would love to perform in! Our talented production team, Martin, Zoe and Scott, did us proud. We had a fantastic time. Onwards and upwards for Longwood AOS.
Keep checking back to see what we hope to do in 2018.
