Welcome to Longwood Amateur Operatic Society’s website.

We have been performing in Huddersfield since 1924.  Our venues have changed over the years – moving with the times – from the Mechanics Hall in Longwood (where we started and hence named our society Longwood AOS) to the former Venn Street Arts Centre, which was pulled down to make way for the Kingsgate Shopping Centre, to the Lawrence Batley Theatre on Queen Street.  We were the first amateur operatic society to stage a show at the LBT, as it has become affectionately known, with our performance of The Pirates of Penzance in 1994.

What can we say? What an amazing week we have just had! We are proud to say that we had a successful week in October 2018 performing the fantastic musical “Whistle Down The Wind” (by arrangement with The Musical Company Ltd) back at our original home – the Longwood Mechanics Hall in Longwood, Huddersfield. The venue may be smaller than we have been used to of late; the facilities may not be as modern as those we have been used to of late……………….none of that mattered. We had an amazing production team – Colin, Zoe, Scott, Ged and Andrea – a very talented band led by Scott, an enthusiastic and talented cast on stage – adults and juniors, and a very appreciative audience. Great team effort from everyone!

The committee are pleased to announce that we will be performing the musical “All Shook Up” , week commencing Monday 7th October to Saturday 12th October 2019.  This is a musical comedy using Elvis Presley songs to tell the story.  We hope you will come along and support us.  Once again we will be back at the Mechanics Hall in Longwood, Huddersfield.

Thank you to each and every one of you that supports us – keeping amateur theatre alive.
