Welcome to Longwood Amateur Operatic Society’s website.
We are based in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire and perform our annual musicals in the Lawrence Batley Theatre in the town centre in October each year.
We have been performing in Huddersfield since 1924. Our venues have changed over the years – moving with the times – from the Mechanics Hall in Longwood (where we started and hence named our society Longwood AOS) to the former Venn Street Arts Centre, which was pulled down to make way for the Kingsgate Shopping Centre, to our current venue, the Lawrence Batley Theatre on Queen Street. We were the first amateur operatic society to stage a show at the LBT, as it has become affectionately known, with our performance of The Pirates of Penzance in 1994.
Each year it becomes more difficult to decide what show to put on – and it is with delight that we will be performing Oklahoma! this year. The show will open on Tuesday 2nd October and will run until Saturday 6th October. All evening performances will commence at 7.15pm and the matinee on the 6th will commence at 2.15pm.
