Welcome

Welcome to Longwood Amateur Operatic Society’s website.

We are based in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire and perform our annual musicals in the Lawrence Batley Theatre in the town centre in October each year.

We have been performing in Huddersfield since 1924.  Our venues have changed over the years – moving with the times – from the Mechanics Hall in Longwood (where we started and hence named our society Longwood AOS) to the former Venn Street Arts Centre, which was pulled down to make way for the Kingsgate Shopping Centre, to our current venue, the Lawrence Batley Theatre on Queen Street.  We were the first amateur operatic society to stage a show at the LBT, as it has become affectionately known, with our performance of The Pirates of Penzance in 1994.

We are pleased and proud to announce that we will be performing the wonderful musical Oliver! in October 2013. This show has just been re-released for Amateur Theatre and we are very pleased to have been awarded the contract to perform it at the LBT. The show will open on Tuesday 1st October and will run until Saturday 5th October. We will be performing a matinee on the 5th. All evening performances will commence at 7.15pm and the matinee at 2.15pm.

Auditions will be held in the new year – so if you fancy joining us – keep checking back for audition information, which will be posted here in due course.
